FISH PROFILE:

Koi Size: Koi can reach a maximum size of 40+” with anything over 28” being considered “jumbo”. Depending on the size of their habitat and how aggressively they are fed, this size can be reach in a matter of 4-5 years. Koi can and will outgrow most smaller water gardens so be aware when stocking a smaller feature. Temperature: Koi can generally survive in waters from 35º F in the middle of February all the way to 86º F and higher - and can be successfully over wintered in a pond. Smaller individuals such as babies may not be able to make it through winter due to their necessary lack of consitution. In Japan, good baby fish are taken into heated greenhouses for winter. Diet: Koi will accept almost any commercial food available as well as graze on algae and other vegetable matter. They will also accept a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as nightcrawlers, silkworm larvae, and other various insects.
